The Thomson Message Mapping SystemSM ( TMMS) formerly the Astrolabe Message Mapping SystemTM, applies evidence-based science to communications planning and analysis. It is a strategic tool for the global pharmaceutical industry to measure the potential impact of scientific information on the clinical practices of healthcare professionals. Subscribers to the system are able to analyze information from scientific literature and medical meetings describing their product and competitors from the perspective of the healthcare professional, and to critically evaluate key concepts and themes in terms of their strength, diversity, and value. One of the most critical aspects of drug development and the commercialization process is understanding how published information supports or detracts from the key clinical concepts and themes that uniquely distinguish a product. The process by which the body of information describing a product is analyzed, in order to critically evaluate the strength, diversity, and value of the key concepts and themes disseminated in these resources, is termed "message mapping".
