Includes details of types and structures of antennae/aerials for communications and broadcast transmission or reception, e.g. monopoles, dipoles, loop and rhombic aerials, waveguide and slot aerials, reflectors, refractors, polarisers and absorbers and aerial arrays.

Also includes arrangements for varying directional pattern e.g. direction control systems, and general antenna details e.g. measuring and testing, aerial parameter measurement, antenna set-up and alignment etc. Isolation, overvoltage and protection arrangements including lightning protection and protection against radiation.

Antenna applications are also included e.g. for land vehicles, marine vessels, aircraft and space vehicles. Details of radio frequency waveguides are included in the Derwent ITP; ‘Radio Frequency Waveguides and Distributed Constant Components’.

Broadcasting Systems Download Sample PDF

This Derwent ITP is divided into three sections covering all aspects of television, audio and interactive broadcasting systems, irrespective of media. The information in this Derwent ITP focuses on broadcasting infrastructure and systems aspects, rather than on broadcast receivers.

The television broadcasting section covers TV broadcasting equipment and distribution networks e.g. cable TV networks, CATV, interactive TV, satellite TV and TV studio equipment. See Derwent ITP ‘Image transmission systems’ for details of television systems used for transmitting image information in a non-broadcast environment, such as CCTV systems.

The sound and general broadcasting section covers cable and radio systems of conventional 'one-way' and interactive type, with the emphasis on sound-based broadcasting.

The interactive broadcast systems section covers video, audio/video, audio and information systems for access by entertainment equipment, usually of 'subscription' type, e.g. ‘video-on-demand’, ‘pay-per-view’, ‘pay-per-play’ and ‘communications karaoke’ etc. The Derwent ITP ‘Television and radio receivers’ covers details of broadcast receivers for television and radio signals.

The Derwent ITP includes a ‘radio and near-field communications’ section which covers radio systems from a mainly non-mobile perspective. Mobile radio systems are covered in detail by the Derwent ITP 'Mobile Radio Communications and Paging'. Aspects of mobile radio which overlap with topics in this Derwent ITP are included here. The subject matter covered by the ‘radio and near-field communications’ section includes: diversity, radio relay, point-to-point systems, equalising, echo cancelling, power control, Doppler shift compensation, network planning, and testing/monitoring.

The Derwent ITP also includes a ‘line and miscellaneous communication systems’ section which covers aspects of line communication such as equalising, echo cancelling, cross-talk suppression, etc., and testing for line and other communication systems in general. Also included are general aspects of PCM communications (non-video), communications via sonic or ultrasonic links, via the ground, etc. PCM video systems are covered in the 'Image transmission systems' Derwent ITP.
